Yanni Hufnagel Develops Reputation as Top Recruiter

One of the hardest jobs to get into coaching at either the professional or major college level. In most cases, those that are able to get jobs working as coaches are former employees that already have a reputation in the field. For those that are looking to coach, but never played a sport, having a very strong skill set in a valuable area is important.


Yanni Hufnagel is an example of a person that has excelled in the college basketball field as a coach without having any major experience. Hufnagel is currently an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. While he is a very good basketball coach, he is best known for his actions in the field of recruiting athletes. He has worked for several different college basketball programs and has consistently shown that he is one of the best recruiters in the field.


Hufnagel is a graduate of Cornell University, but hasn’t played organized since middle school. After finishing his education, he landed a job as a graduate assistant working for the University of Oklahoma basketball team. A few years later he was named as an assistant coach for Harvard. While at Harvard, he was able to land several top 100 players, which is very uncommon for the school. Due to the talent he brought in, the team won several conference championship games and played in the NCAA Tournament.


Now that he is coaching and recruiting for university of Nevada, the school is turning into a top tier program. Hufnagel has helped build the program to the point where it is always fighting to win the conference and be a highly-ranked team.
