Beating cancer one step at a time; the contributions of Mikhail Blagosklonny

The one problem that every medical researcher and scientist in the 21st Century wants to solve is the treatment of cancer and increasing longevity among the human race. This is the reason why scientists and all other stakeholders in the field of medicine have intensified their research into the different therapies and treatments that are available for cancer. The past few decades have seen focus shift and land on the role that stem cells can play towards the treatment of cancer and slowing down of the aging process. This is precisely what Mikhail Blagosklonny, a professor of oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York has been studying.

Mikhail Blagosklonny started his journey as a medical scholar and researcher in Russia. He attended The First Pavlov State Medical University and acquired his MD there. He followed this up by getting his PhD in Cardiology from the same institute. After graduating, he was appointed to the post of associate professor at the New York Medical College. He worked here for a few years before he decided to join the Ordway Research Institute in Albany New York. It is in 20008 that he got his appointment as a researcher at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, a position that he is still holding up to date. He has been researching on the causes of the cancer menace and the different therapies that can be used to offer protection to the normal cells from the damaging effects that come from cancer.

He is a supporter of the theory that TOR signaling is an efficient way to reduce the effects of cancer and aging. One of the popular anti-cancer drugs, Rampamycin can be used to lengthen the lives of patients according to him. He is actually very passionate about the use of the drug in cancer therapy. He has also published many articles and made contributions to medical journals about the same topics. He edits the Cell Cycle and Oncotarget magazines.
